International business tour 2022

The International Business Tour (IBT) is a yearly business trip to a foreign destination. The goal of the IBT is to give econometrics students of Tilburg University the opportunity to explore the (corporate) culture abroad. During previous editions of the IBT cities like Cape Town, New York, Moscow, Singapore, Washington, Atlanta and Dubai were visited.

During our stay we will be undertaking several cultural activities to explore the culture and compare it to the Dutch culture. Furthermore, we will be visiting several companies in order to have a taste of business life there and experience the differences in corporate culture.

Our trip starts in London in southeastern England, which is of the original alpha-metropolis. As in the past, London is still one of the political and economic powers of Europe and the world. Being the biggest urban economy in Europe and one of the largest financial centers in the world, it is the perfect place to discover the vibrant business life. In addition to the many different companies, London also has a rich history of culture that can be discovered.

To give a good contrast to the busy life in London, the city of Reykjavik is visited. Only 123,246 people live in Reykjavik as opposed to the 8.7 million in London. In addition to most people still working in the fishing and manufacturing industries, Reykjavik is also changing into a center for trade and transportation.

However, Reykjavik (and the rest of Iceland) is best known for its landscape. The nature in Iceland is beautiful with different fjords, volcanoes, waterfalls, glaciers, geysers to beautiful beaches in Vik. In addition to these sights, the Icelanders are pampered almost daily in the clear, warm spring water in one of the many natural pools.

Since there are many differences in economic but also cultural fields, we think this is the perfect combination to bring these different aspects to light.

Temperature: is around 13° (London) and 6° (Reykjavik) degrees Celsius.

The language that is spoken is English and Icelandic.

The local currency is the British pound (1 GBP is approximately €1.20)  and Icelandic Krona (1 ISK is approximately €0.0070).

The only recommended vaccination is for COVID-19.
